Kaitiakitanga Project

Rationale

For this Kaitiakitanga Project, my idea was to impart knowledge to tell the story of earthquakes in the Wellington region; earthquakes around Wellington being the subject of my Puna Project. My approach was to use humour to try and make the idea of earthquakes approachable to the general public while still informing them. To contrast the mess caused by an earthquake, I made my site clean and easy to navigate, with minimal information and statistics bombarding the user; choosing to use mostly textures rather than full images to convey my tone. This makes the site more appealing and dynamic, setting it apart from pre-existing earthquake information sites. The limited colour palette reinforces this, directing the gaze to the important bites of information.
